5-Day Devotional - Day Five

A Storybook Christmas: Part Five Shannon Haltom Day 5: Stand Your Ground Devotional The moment of breakthrough is often followed by the temptation to slip into old patterns. You've experienced God's touch, felt His freedom, and tasted His peace—but now the enemy whispers that it was just temporary, just emotion, just another church service. This is when you must make a crucial decision: will you stand your ground or retreat to familiar bondage? Standing your ground doesn't mean you'll never face challenges again. It means you refuse to let setbacks convince you God's promises aren't real. When financial pressure returns, you stand on His provision. When relationships get difficult, you stand on His love. When health concerns arise, you stand on His healing. You've been set free for a reason—not just to experience a moment of relief, but to walk in sustained victory. As you prepare for the new year, remember that you don't have to carry the old baggage forward. You don't have to repeat the same cycles of defeat. God has deposited something powerful in you, and the enemy knows it. That's why he'll try to convince you to go back to being bent. You know better now. You've stood up straight. You're not going back down. Stand your ground. Bible Verse “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” –Isaiah 9:6-7 Reflection Question What specific area of breakthrough is the enemy trying to convince you was temporary? How will you stand your ground in God's truth? Quote “Here's the word that God has for you today: stand your ground. There is supernatural acceleration happening to fulfill the purposes of God.” Prayer Father, thank You for the breakthrough You've given me. Help me stand firm in Your promises and resist returning to old patterns. Give me strength to walk in sustained victory and carry Your freedom. In Jesus’s name, amen.
